MAKEUP FOR MEN
For so long the thought of men wearing makeup has been taboo. Feminity in males has always been a touchy subject with society pressuring men to be overly masculine. Now, the lines of gender and sexuality have been blurred allowing for fashion/makeup to be more gender friendly to both sexes. The rise of makeup tutorials on Youtube allowed male beauty bloggers to burst through the door with bloggers like Jeffree Star and Manny Mua leading the way to a revolution in the beauty sector. With dramatic makeup Star and Mua have lead the way for male beauty bloggers to storm to the top of the industry bringing with them millions of followers. This is so amazing for the feminine man, for the queer boy and for everyone who was ever teased for wearing makeup. I think we should celebrate these people but also educate those who many not understand the power of makeup.
I believe that every man should understand the power of makeup. It’s not all dramatic eyes, drawn on brows and red lips. Makeup for men can be subtle and complimentary, it can be something so small yet help with certain areas you didn’t realise could be helped. So this post is going to be all about the power of a subtle touch up.
SUBTLE TOUCH UP
The makeup you can see above is from MMUK, an online website created specifically for male makeup. They have some great brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Calvin Klein, but also have their own branded makeup which I have been trying over a week period. The three products they sent me were their brow fixx gel, liquid concealer and their close up anticerne. The products are such live savers for me already. I’ve always struggled with dark circles under my eyes, this is not due to lack of sleep or hydration it’s just something natural to me. So i’ve been looking for something that could cover them up but seem as natural as possible. As with a lot of makeup I’ve tried to use for it has been very thick and lead for my under eyes to seem lumpy and super weird. With this product it’s super light and isn’t heavy at all on the eyes. It looks so natural and the shade I was given fit my skin complexion perfectly leading it to look as if I wasn’t wearing any makeup. Which in the grand scheme of things is the ultimate goal.
As a Uni student sometimes your lifestyle isn’t the healthiest. I try so hard to go to the gym at least 3/4 times a week, eat my 5 a day and drink plenty of water. The reality is sometimes you just don’t. So imperfections can become apparent when you’ve had a long night out and pigged out the next day. The liquid concealer is perfect for hiding those pesky spots and dark areas without making it seem like you’ve shoved on a tonne of makeup. All 3 products from the brand haven’t changed the way my face looks it’s just complimented aspects that are natural to me. My brows are super bushy and sometimes can be uncontrollable however, with the eyebrow fixx gel my brows have become so much more tame allowing for a fuller look.
I’d 100% recommend any boy to try these products, it’s not dramatic, it’s not bold, it’s just something that helps you on your day to day routine. I’ll definitely be using these products for a long time.
